Gathering- We meet once a week as a large group for a time of corporate praise of our God and for training and encouragement. We believe that true discipleship is difficult and the Church exists to re-energize and encourage those on the spiritual journey. We want our worship to be refreshing and our teaching to be life-changing.
Community Groups- These groups are our smaller gatherings where real “community” happens and where our teaching becomes reality. These groups meet during the week to share life together and join together to live “on mission” to their community. Exploration of the scriptures and group structure flows out of each group’s individual expression. These groups may meet in homes, coffee shops, pubs, sports clubs, or wherever the group sees fit.
Overseers- Our leadership structure is based on the Biblical model of “Overseers”. This demands the highest level of commitment and spiritual maturity. This team consists of those who teach and pray for the church and provide the direction and spiritual guidance. This board may consist of paid and non-paid “overseer” positions. The overseers commit to mutual submission and accountability as a leadership team. They are responsible for guiding the church with humble hearts. Our overseers are servant leaders who share the power with one another, with Christ functioning as the “Head Overseer”.
Leadership- Additional leaders serve in a variety of “ministry” roles providing more specific leadership to the church. This may consist of community group leaders, project and program directors, and other people serving in leadership capacities. We view all positions that serve in teaching and “shepherding” roles as pastors and believe male and females may be involved in leadership (see attached theological explanation in the FAQ section).
Membership- Membership for us is in the form of a covenant relationship. Those choosing to be covenant members commit to actively participating in the church’s mission. Members commit to living the mission in their daily lives, to actively pursuing a love for Jesus that is evidenced in his/her life, and to supporting the Soma family. Covenants are renewed each year with a yearly covenant agreement.
Money- We give 20% of all of money received in “general funds” to projects outside of ourselves. We believe in helping the poor in our community and in supporting projects aimed at bringing the grace and love of Jesus to the most dangerous and least “churched” places on earth. Our foreign “missions” are focused on the
Missions- We desire to actively meet the physical needs of the poor in our own community and want to assist in enabling the poorest among us to rise out of their poverty. We are interested in the “forgotten” (i.e. the disabled, the orphans and the elderly) in our community. We want to support projects and send people to the least “churched” parts of the globe (10-40 window). There are countless “good” projects to be involved in but we limit our finances and our time to focusing on the previously mentioned areas.
